Tongariro Alpine Crossing Shuttle One Way Service

Tongariro Alpine Crossing shuttle one way service from Ketetahi carpark to Mangatepopo carpark. Enjoy the convenience of driving your own car to the track end! You’ll have the freedom to head home as soon as you have finished your hike. No need to wait for the next shuttle. ( Please note there is very limited parking and you may miss out on a park) You must arrive 30minutes prior to the departure time please to ensure a car park spotting is found. If you do we have a 9am and 10.30am return shuttle from National Park Village.

Our one way Tongariro Alpine Crossing shuttle service is a great option for those wanting extra time to soak up the views. With no set time schedule to meet, you are free to hike at your own pace, while knowing that your car is waiting for you at the finish.

The Crossing is regarded in the top 10 one day hikes in the world and is considered New Zealand’s best! Traversing two active volcanoes, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is situated in the world famous Tongariro National Park. A dual World Heritage Area.

When the weather is great, the track can get really hot, so sunblock is a must have. The weather however can be very changeable so dress accordingly and prepare for the worst. Make sure you pack some warm clothes and a waterproof jacket and if you are unsure of what you need in your backpack then have a look at what to take. Check out Mountain Forecast for the latest in weather news.

Preparation is key and a moderate degree of fitness is best. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing track is well marked and toilets are available enroute, but there is no fresh water available so take at least 1.5L per person. It is also important to take ALL of your rubbish out with you.

For more track information visit DoC.

Tongariro Crossing Shuttles

Our Tongariro Alpine Crossing shuttle one way service is ideal for those passing through the area. Park your vehicle at the end of the track (Ketetahi Road end) and catch our shuttle to the beginning. Then hike the Crossing back to your vehicle. Two shuttles depart each morning for maximum flexibility.

We are local to the Crossing area, so we monitor the weather closely and take advantage when it is better than expected. We do not cancel due to weather until the day itself.

There is limited parking at the Ketetahi Rd end, so plan carefully and consider our return shuttle option instead to be sure.

See the shuttle timetable for departure times.

Hello, I’d like to book one way shuttle for 12th of February from END point (from Ketetahi carpark) to START point of the track (Mangatepopo carpark). In your timetable is stated, that from National park shuttles start as early as 6am, but by selecting pickup point “Katetahi Track end” there is only 7am & 8am options. In return shuttle table it is possible to select different pick up places and even 6am, but price somehow is different – 40 NZD.

    • Ang Messenger

hello, one way is only 7am and 8am. the returns have selected pick up points and more departure times.

Hi! This isn’t a review, but a query. We are travelling from England to New Zealand from 21 January, and we’ll be in the Tongariro vicinity on 2 and 3 February. Can we get a one-way shuttle on the day or must we pre-book?

I also seem to be going backwards and forwards on your site. When I’ve written my query it says add a rating, and when I’ve added a rating it says add a review!

    • Ang Messenger

Hi yes you can book at any time for the Tongariro Crossing one way even the night before. If you do book in advance we happy to move booking cancel booking at any stage

This is not a review but we are coming from Hamilton and would like to do the hike tomorrow (Sat 24th) but if it gets cancelled we don’t want to drive all the way down in the morning just to drive back home again. Is the weather going to be okay enough to hike tomorrow do you think?

Even if the weather is cloudy you are sometimes still able to see the mountains.

Hey. We are planning to go on sunday the 20th of may. Is the crossing open? We are going to park the car at Ketetahi and take the shuttle to Mangatepopo and then start the hiking going back to ketetahi. Is that correct? Should we book it now or do it when we get there? Thank you
